We wish to protect our UAT sites from bot indexing, URL leakage and accidental browsing.

For our other CMS systems we setup a generic windows account on the web server and enable basic authentication for the site.  To access the site the client has to enter a username and password.

Simplistic, but it works.  How can this be enabled for Sitefinity?  We are using version 6.3 with IIS 7.5 on 2008 R2.

The easiest way to do this would be to change the view Permissions for pages to Authenticated only instead of Everyone and create a page with the login widget that can be viewed to everyone. After that, configure the frontend login url for the site from Administration - Settings - Advanced - Project:http://screencast.com/t/0dYhZOVI33y
and set it the url of the frontend login. You can create only 1 frontend user(that does not have access to the backend) and distribute it to your users, everyone can login with this user and access the pages.

    I hope this helps.
