I have inherited the responsibility of maintaining our CMS of Sitefinity, and I am trying to make some changes, but it is behaving strangly, and also it is confusing me with the way it is set up.  Any help would be appreciated.

We have 2 domain names pointing to our web site.  The secondary domain is a forwarded domain with masking which is pointing to a dynamically created aspx page in Sitefinity.  This page is set as an External Page and is pointing to our secondary domain name.  It seems like this should create a navigation loop and it would never get to a page to display anything.  However, it is displaying the correct page.

The page that is being displayed is also listed on our Sitefinity site but, when i click on it under the pages section, it sends me out to the secondary domain name, and asks me to log into Sitefinity again.  After I log in again, it shows me the page itself, without any of the Sitefinity extras in order to edit the page.  Then I have to click the drop down on the back button my browser in order to go back a few pages to get back to the Sitefinity administration pages.  Then when i click on that page again on the Site map, it then displays it correctly inside the Sitefinity edit window.

So, what I am trying to do is set up a test site on the same server using host headers to differentiate between the 2.  However, when i make any changes to the test site in order to try to have it navigate to the dev page for that specific masked page, it still always goes to the production site with the secondary domain.  I have even tried swapping navigation options around to try to navigate directly to the correct pages, but it still sends me to the production secondard domain name and site.

Let me know if you need anymore information, or if you have any suggestions because i can't find anywhere that it is pointing to the site that its actually getting to.  Thanks.

    Hello Adam,

Could you inspect the the redirects with HttpWatch or Fiddler2? These tools should show you the picture. I am not sure that I get the whole case though. Could you please try to put query string - ?cmspagemode=edit to the page you would like to edit? This should bring you the admin interface with the page you want to edit.

I actually was able to figure it out.  I did a findstr on the entire site directory for the forward site, and found that the previous admin had put some conditional forwarding into the master page templates.  I still don't think that was the best way to resolve what they were attempting, but at least i know where the issue is now.
