    Hi all,

How can I change the 'Publication_Date' for library items?
Is it possible to do this in the database itself?

I've this problem that I show my documents in a list and by default it is ordered by Publication_Date DESC.
That is okay, but after I did a batch edit on these items, I think it also changed the publication date for all the items, because now my list is order on 'Title'?

    Is this the default behaviour?

    Thanks,
    Daniel

    Hi Daniel,

By default Library item contents does not have 'Publication_Date" as a metakey. The default metakeys are Name, Width, Height, Size, Extension, AlternateText, Author, Description, Category.

Make sure that when you make BatchEdit for each item you have correctly returned value of this metakey Publication_Date. There is a related property called - DateCreated which shows the "Uploaded on" value, but it is not altered during batch edit.

    Kind regards,

I have the same issue in Sitefinity 4 and am unclear how to resolve it.  The description given above is unclear.  I have uploaded documents, and am attempting to display them in a document list.  The date the document was created is not the date Sitefinity stores as the "Publication Date".    I need to list the documents in the order they were created by me, not the date they are uploaded to Sitefinity.  But, it doesn't appear that any dates are editable via the Sitefinity UI.

How can I sort (or filter) items in a document list based on date if this isn't editable?

    Hello Mark,

In Sitefinity 4.x DateCreated field sets the date when the item was uploaded to the CMS. PublicationDate field takes the date of the last published version of the item.  If you need to use a date which is the date when the document was created you need to add a new custom field of type date and work with it.

    Hi,

    I'm using 4.3 --
I've created a custom field following these instructions: http://www.sitefinity.com/documentation/documentationarticles/user-guide/website-content/adding-custom-fields-to-content-items/creating-a-new-custom-field/

I created a field type of "Date and Time" for my documents content but I can't designate any values in this field when adding documents.  It simply does not appear on the add document form.

attached are screenshots of my backend:

docfields.png shows that i've added the field. (no, it's not a hidden field, so i didn't check that box, and yes, I've saved these settings and returned to the screen to confirm this)

docfields2.png shows the new document form, with the Date field noticeably absent.

Is there some step I'm missing here?

    thanks,
    -trevor

    Hello Trevor,

Unfortunately the upload screen for library items cannot be edited to include custom fields. The custom fields will be shown when you edit a single item.
