    great news!

    however, when I go to my client.net, listed beside the item for Standard edition patch for .NET 3.5 is a link to Sitefinity_3_6_1920_standard_NET2-0_patch.zip

    is this just a typo or is the incorrect file linked?

    thanks!

    Hi Quade,

    We will have Sp2 in order to deliver the latest version of the controls when their SP or fix comes out. We will listen for any urgent things that should be fixed though.
    For anyone who requires the missing .net2.0 versions, we will fix this in a day or two.

    Kind regards,
    Georgi

    I'm curious: why does the patch file contain so many additional files in the Sitefinity folder? I make custom changes to some of these files, such as the login.aspx page for password recovery, but I am concerned that if I don't overwrite my changes I might break something.

    Is it possible to only include the files that are actually required to be updated so I don't have to worry about losing my changes but still fully upgrade?

    thanks!

    Hi,
    I understand SelArom but embedding all is not great for not english spoken. The localisations are very hard to make and after 2 years i don't have any version with complete localisation for my language. I know that v4 implement another technic to make this more easier but what about v3. I have special templates for Users and Profile and more that 40 modules to upgrade all the time and is very hard. I need to searching by files dates before upgrading without lost my customs. Embeding yes, but not without localisation more easier for custom users of versions 3.

    Hello Pierre,

    Would you mind telling us what exactly you needed to upgrade in your custom modules? We are always trying to keep the backward compatibility,  and don't think that the changes are that major so you have broken modules. Even that we release new architectures and solution, we always keep the old classes.

    On another hand, you will be definitely pleased by the localization framework coming in 4.0.

    All the best,
    Georgi

    Hi Georgi,
    I upgrade all Telerik resources need by my modules to new versions (no mixed resources in the project). I paste all translations, I searching all files that i have modified or relinked to translations not finished (less today but many in olders), i upgrade mi resources when you add or change some minors terms in resources. I'm cracy for every upgrade. i make manual all. I don't apply any patch because i lost my customs. I would lovelly that you add some internal serial at header of each document to verify is modified or not before apply one patch. New architecture with mapping tool is a good way, but upgrades and maintain custom codes and translation is so hard in v3+ in this condition. I lovelly test the new translation feature in v3 before go to mayor version.
    Regards.

    Hi Pierre,

    So the main problem you face is with the translations. We will provide a beta for testing as soon we have it, so you would be able to see how the localization framework would work before the actual release.

    Any word on the possible release date for 4.0. I have two clients that are evaluating CMSes and want the ability to search inside PDF documents and, I understand, 4.0 is going to provide that functionality. I keep telling them to hold off because I'd much rather work with Sitefinity than some of the other CMSes out there, but I don't know how long they will wait. Is the release in the imminent future. Can I also get a beta version to make sure the searching is going to do what they need?

    Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello Kalvin MacLeod,

    We can add you to a list of our beta testers. You can open a support ticket and send us your email address.
    However, there is a possible solution for this requirement event with the current versions. You should implement custom IndexerProvider that inherits from IIndexingServiceClient. The idea is that the you need to process PDF files and extract text that will be indexed. You should specify which context you want to index
    ( GetContentToIndex()) and return an array

    foreach (IContent file in files)
                {
                    if (file.MimeType == "text/plain" || file.MimeType == "application/pdf"
                    {
                        string urlWithExtension = file.Url + manager.Provider.ContentExtension;
                        IIndexerInfo fileIndexInfo = new FileIndexerInfo(urlWithExtension,file.ID, null,file.MimeType);
                        list.Add(fileIndexInfo);
                    }
                }

    Thanks Ivan,

    Is there a more complete solution available anywhere. I don't really know what to do with the code you supplied. I've gone through the forums and seen some other discussions on this but none seem to apply. This is a deal breaker for my clients and I need to show them it will work asap.

    Any more suggestions.

    Hmm,
    Seems like many people customize a lot of the Sitefinity UI and it breaks with every new version.
    How about storing the Sitefinity distributable files (not the zipped files but the content files of course) in a public Subversion repository, so that people can simply update their working copies from this repository and get the new version and can track all changes with WinDiff.
    Would this be feasible & practical?
    Or could this even be done by someone from the community?
    Maybe this way one could also collect translations made by the community?

    Just an Idea,

    Greetings,

    Simon

    Hello Simon,

    Thank you for your suggestion. We will consider a possible implementation.

    Since almost 90 percent of Sitefinity templates are embedded every user can track easily the  changes that have been made in your external templates.

    Ivan,
    To follow up on Kalvin MacLeod's post is there any word on 4.0? Also if you are looking for Beta testers I would be glad to be a guinea pig as I am developing several modules and would love to see how these are going to port over to the new OpenAccess framework.

    Thanks!
