    Hi,

    I have content pages with tags and I have created the tag list in either list or cloud format. The tag list gives the tags and the number of pages tagged with each particular piece of content. I have created a page on which tag results could be displayed if you click on a tag to see all articles related to that tag. But I can't figure out how to get a list of those pieces of content to show up on the results page.

    I would love this to work like the search feature where you search and the results are displayed on another page from which you can select the article you want. Is this possible? How might I implement what I would like to do.

    Thank you!
    Lindsay

    Hi Lindsay Coleman,

    1. You should have a page( say "~/MySingleTaggedContent.aspx") where a ContentView based control  resides- say NewsView.

    2. You should configure TagsList control as below:

    ProviderName = News
    TaggedContentUrl = ~/MySingleTaggedContent.aspx
    TagKeyType = ID
    TagItemKey = NewsTagID

    Your ContentView control( NewsView in our case) should have the same TagItemKey under Advanced Tab, QueryString keys category.

    Let us know if there is anything else that we can do for you.

    All the best,

    Ivan, I work with Lindsay. The content pages she is referring to are in individual pages not in the news Module. How would she achieve this without using News?

    Hello Armysniper,

    The Tags List control works with content modules (Generic Content, News, Blogs, Events, Libraries, and any other custom modules that have tagging) to display tags associated with content items from those modules. If you do not specify which provider to use as in Ivan's example the control would not know which tags for what type of content items to display. The example Ivan provided can be applied with the rest of content types described above.

    Can you please elaborate on what type of content pages do you have, and how do you associate content with them? For example do you have Generic Content controls dropped on pages to display generic content. And you want that content tagged so that the Tags List control works with this content.

    Best wishes,
    Rado

    Hi,

    Yes, I was able to actually figure this out given the instructions that Ivan provided.
    My tags are for general content pieces. I used the Content View control on my ~/MySingleTaggedContent.aspx page. When I click the tag in my Library it takes me to a list of all general content pieces tagged with that particular tag. Which is great!

    My only problem now is that the Content View control displays each piece of content in its entierty, on on top of the next. I would love it to show only the title of each article with link to the full article and the description. I envision this resulting in a list of let's say 5 articles with their link and a short description (like a small filtered library) to which you click to get to the full article. Is there a way to do this?

    I have created seperate content pieces that are just a link and short description, would I have to tag those instead of the full article, to make this work? Or in the control is there a way to tell it to only display the title, link and description?

    Thank you very much for your help!
    Lindsay

    Hi Lindsay Coleman,

    This is easily done. You just have to set the Summary Settings property for your Content View control and it will display the list of content view Items as you wish. To do this just click Edit in the content view control, go to Filters section, and set the properties (see attached image for reference).

    Let me give you some information about that property. Terms must be delimited by semicolons. The first term defines the way you which you want to form the summary (the property currently works with Words), the second term is for the number of words you want to be in the summary - e.g. 20. Third and fourth term define whether you want to strip any of the styles in the content, and which styles to strip.

    A valid expression for the Summary Settings  will be: Words; 20; False; {img}

    Sincerely yours,

    Thank you.

    I tried what you said and I see that it works in part, but it is still not where I want it to be.
    A few other things I would like. I would like not to use the first 10 words (or however many I select) in the article to form the description, I would like to use the description that is currently part of the content piece. Is there a way to do that? Also, eventhough I do not allow comments it still says comments 0 and it says posted by: If comments aren't allowed, why does it say this?

    Thank you!

    Hello Lindsay Coleman,

    Thank you for getting back to us.

    Unfortunately the Summary settings only works with words for now. It is intended to work with other options, such as Sentences, Paragraphs, or MetaField (which Description is). However this has not been implemented yet. A possible way would be to create your custom class that will inherit from Content View and implement the custom Summary setting or something similar.

    As for the 0 comments and posted by: appearing on your list of content items. Is it possible that you are using a custom external template for the content view. This might cause the reason. A fix for that will be to go to the ~/Sitefinity/ControlTemplates/Generic_Content/ContentItemViewList.ascx and remove/comment the following sections for comments:
      <div class="sf_contentComments"
                    <asp:HyperLink ID="CommentsLink" runat="server" NavigateUrl="{0}#comments"
                        <asp:Label ID="CommentsCount" runat="server"></asp:Label>
                        <asp:Literal Text="<%$Resources:Comments %>" runat="server"></asp:Literal>
                    </asp:HyperLink>
                </div>

    And for the posted by: if you do not want it appearing:
     <div class="sf_contentAuthor"
                    posted by:
                    <asp:HyperLink ID="postedBy" runat="server"
                        <asp:Literal ID="Author" runat="server"></asp:Literal>
                    </asp:HyperLink>
                </div>

    Actually she does not have a custom version. That is how the built in control behaves. With that said, I will actually add the template to the system and do what you suggested to get the control to work the way she wants. I have to go through the steps in this article right?

    How would I setup the configuration for this ContentViewItemList control? I am looking at the reference file in the ExternalTemplates ZIP and its hard to figure out what I am supposed to put in my configuration file. Any help would be great.

    Rado,

    I got the template into my system and it loads properly to my version of the control. I got the fields that Lindsay asked for removed from the control but the problem is there is still space. It does not collapse the space...is there something else we should be doing? Here is the code for my template...I commented out the fields she wants hidden. Hello Shannon,

    Please, inspect your styles there should be some margin rules for the generic content list creating the unwanted spacings. The CSS class you should be looking at is .sf_genericContentList li . Its default values in the embedded resources are:
    .sf_genericContentList li {
      list-style-type:none
      margin:0 0 2em;
      padding:0;

    Make sure they are not overridden somewhere in your themes.

    This is a follow up to your previous to last post. In the External Templates archive there is a file called~/App_Data/Configuration/Telerik.Sitefinity.Configuration.ControlsConfigAll.xml which you can check which view setting apply for different controls.

    Hi Armysniper,

    Thank you for getting back to us.

    I am sending you as an attachment the embedded CSS styles file. You should download it and modify it as you see fit. Then in order to make the Generic Content view control use this styling instead, you should open the external template and modify the <sfWeb:CssFileLink> to point to your modified styles file. Consider the bellow example:
    <sfWeb:CssFileLink ID="CssFileLink1" FileName="~/path to your styles" Media="screen" runat="server" />

    Please note that it might turn out that some of your theme styles are overriding those in the generic content style sheet. In that case consider using !improtant statement for the overridden styles.

    Best wishes,
    Rado

    Hello Devubha,

    The Page control belongs to  Assembly="Telerik.Cms.Web.UI" Namespace="Telerik.Cms.Web.UI" . For CssFileLink you can use telerik as tag prefix directly. It has been registered in the web.config by default.

    Hi Majid,

    You can use GetItemsByTaxon  method to get all content items associated with a taxon (tag, category or a custom taxon). Currently the index does not group the items by taxon. We are changing the search API for Q2 release, but again this feature needs to be implemented with custom code.
