Note: this is Sitefinity 3.6 beta standard edition

When I try to install SF 3.6 beta I am receiving this error right after the web installer says "Checking for administrators".  I am using IIS7 with MSSQL 2008 workgoup edition.

    Hi Michael,

Are upgrading a project to 3.6?
The upgrades from 3.x to 3.6 is still not supported. We will make it work for the official release though.

This is a new install of SF 3.6.  It says in the install list that MSSQL 2008 is supported.

    Hello Michael,

Thank you for getting back to us.

I have just checked the installation of Sitefinity 3.6 under SQL SERVER 2008, IIS 7, Windows Vista and did not face any troubles. Could you please check whether the connection string is set properly. Set the user you use as a dbo.
Please find the web.config file I used for my project.

    Kind regards,
    Ivan Dimitrov

    Hi Chris Howell,

Is this error comes from a clean installation - clean database? It seems that values to [sf_CmsVariables] cannot be set, although I am ran 3.7 in the same database environment and no error was thrown.

    All the best,

Is there a solution to this?  I am trying to transfer to a new database server and am getting the same error.

    Hi Eric,

Please make sure that you use SQL SERVER 2005 or 2008. BeginUpdate method initializes a transaction and generate unique transaction version number. Due to some reason the version number cannot be generated and the database driver fails. The error cannot be reproduced locally.

I have similar problem. I`m using Sitefinity 3.7 and sql server 2008 and IIS 6.1. I didn`t install sitefinity I`m trying to deploy a sitefinity website from a different location to another server.

    Things I did:
    - Scripted 2005 database and moved it to 2008 database
    - Updated 1443:s to sql server TCP/IP configs
    - Deployed new website for IIS, configured corresponding app pool

    And the error is:
< [NolnetException: Database initialization error: Version is not available]
       Nolics.ORMapper.DataProviders.SqlServer2005Provider.BeginUpdate(Connection con) +430
       Nolics.ORMapper.DataProviders.SQLDataProvider.Update(DataSet updateData) +361

    Hi Antti Kokko,

Most probably the SQL 2008 database does not support 2005 compatibility mode.

    Best wishes,

Thanks, I found the error. My database didn`t script the data so the copied database was empty. I added the data and now it is working.

I had this same problem with SQL Azure. To fix it i just ran the data export by right clicking my data base in sql management studio and exported it over to sql azure since my database schema was all there already it ported over decently. certain tables wouldn't copy but i ignored them and it seemed to work anyhow. (personalization, binary, chunk, and 3 others that i forget)
