I just tried to install the community edition and received an error creating the virtual directories.  Has anyone else tried in this environment?

    Hi Bill Graziano,

Thank you for our using services.

You are getting this kind of error because of the IIS settings in Windows 7. Please read this blog post that specifically addresses this issue in the installation of Sitefinity in Windows 7.

I hope this information will help you solve your installation problems. If you have more questions, please feel free to contact us.

    All the best,
    Rado

I am trying to evaluate the Community edition for our company.  But, I am having this problem as well.  The link Rado gave does not work.

I would prefer to setup the site manually, instead of having the installer do its magic.  This is so I can deploy it on the corporate sites when we purchase a license.

Where do I obtain the instructions for a manual install of the Community?

    Hi Eric Duncan,

This is what you need to do to get started with an empty Sitefinity project:

1.Download one of the archives - for instance Community edition project for .NET 3.5   (zip, 16 MB).
    2. Extract the files to a folder of your server.
    3. Grant the ASPNET account full permissions for the App_Data folder.
    4. Create a virtual directory in IIS and choose the physical folder where the extracted project resides for its content.
    5. Create a new database.
    6. Access the virtual directory from the browser and set up the project.

    Best wishes,
