    Hello,

I'm trying to get sitefinity 3.7 running on my development machine, windows 7 ultimate, sql server express 2008.  I'm getting the old

"A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)"

error.  I noticed that my machine doesn't have the aspnet account so I gave IUSR account full rights to the App_Data directory but same error.

    Thanks for the help.

    Hello dpcr,

Your SQL service is not turned on or the server cannot be accessed. You may find the following posts useful

Thanks for the very prompt response Ivan.

I have gone through that link you referred to with no success.  Please note that the sql server is on my development machine so I don't believe the firewall should be an issue.  Either way I temporarily disabled the my firewall and still got the same error.  I am able to access the server though sql server management studio.  I am using the same instance name: machine\SQLEXPRESS.

Does the missing ASPNET account have anything to do with this error?

Do you have any other suggestions?

    Thanks again.

    Hi dpcr,

Here are some other suggestions in this post. Generally this is not Sitefinity problem. The problem is with your database server or its configuration.

    Hi Jerry,

This issues is related the the SQL server, not to Sitefinity. Sitefinity needs access to database of your SQL server, but the connection to it is refused.

I am sending you several links that explains the issue

    Make sure that

    • Named Pipes and TCP/IP protocols for SQL server are enabled
    • SQL Server Browser is enabled
