I successfully installed and ran SF on WindowsXP with IIS5.1. However when trying to install the standard trial on Windows 2003 with IIS 6, it fails to setup the virtual directories needed to run.

    "Error creating virtual directory telerik.
Exception details: The system cannot find the path specified."

"Error creating virtual directory telerik/Sitefinity 3.2.
Exception details: The system cannot find the path specified."

The installer continues and finishes. Launching Sitefinity Project Manager fails with a 404 (as expected since no virtual directories were created).

I ran the installer just like i did on XP. I am and Admin on the 2003 server so it should not be a permissions issue.

Any help is appreciated, as this will be an ultimate show stopper for us.

    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

    Hello Mike,

As you guessed, most probably the problem is connected with setting the proper permissions in IIS. Please check the following FAQ article which suggests different troubleshooting techniques for handling such kind of errors:

Hope that this information is helpful. Please let us know if you need further help.

Thanks for the reply, however I do not believe that the problem is with IIS permissions. I found that because the "Default Web Site" was not present in IIS, the installer could not create the virtual directories. I was able to restore the default site via a technet article, reran the installer and it completed successfully.

    Thanks,
    Mike
