I've been attempting to apply the 3.5 patch to my 3.2 install. After I copy the files  and change out the web.config, retaining my current connection string, I am greeted with a "Project Startup" screen. Should I see be seeing this when upgrading an existing project?

If I try to click through this by choosing a data connection I get an error: "There was an error trying to connect to the Database Server: An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\frange\App_Data\Sitefinity.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share"

    Hi Brendan,

You should see the Project Startup and pass through database update. As for the error message, please make sure that the database has not been attached to any SQL instances, and no other application is using it. Grant server/user account and ASPNET/NETWORK AUTHORITY full permission over the App_Data folder. It is possible that asp account has only read permissions.
Additionally you could try attaching your Sitefinity database to SQL server using SQL Server Management Studio.

Let us know if there is anything else that we can do for you.

    Sincerely yours,

Thanks, after adjusting the permissions the patch applied successfully.
