    hello,

I was wondering if you could elaborate what functionality related to public users will be (or planned to be...) available in SF v3.1.

I have a site that acts like a membership directory.  So I need Administrators to have the ability to create new users with membership and profile information.  Additionally, these users will be visiting the 'public' aspect of the site.  If they log into the website, they will be directed to the same public site, but new pages will appear that have the public (anonymous) access set to false. Such as a phone list, member directory, etc.  They will never access the administration site (~/Sitefinity/....).

From my post here, I've attempted to create this functionality on my own (and I have a ways to go...).  However, I'm thinking that I am creating something that will be out dated as soon as v3.1 is released.

So, I'm trying to judge, do I continue working on v3.0 SP2, or hold off and wait for v3.1?  I don't want to hold Telerik accountable to anything with this question.  I'm trying to get an idea of what you are expecting to release in v3.1, specifically related to public user management and access.  Do you know when v3.1 is  scheduled to be released?

Any  insight and information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,

    Hello Chris,

The new things regarding user management are:

    1. Improved support for Active Directory.
    2. Support for multiple Membership, Role and Profile providers. This feature allows you to completely separate public and administrative users and manage them form one UI. Also, you can combine different providers like Active Directory and SQL.
    3. Built-in control for displaying and editing user profiles.
    4. New restriction has been added. Users that are not members of at least one unrestricted role will not be able to add or remove users from unrestricted roles even if they have been granted Manage Users permission.

A concrete date for v3.1 has not been scheduled yet but most likely we will release a beta next week and official version around 26th this month.

    Bob,

Is there any indication of what of those features will make it to the community edition?  We're looking at using SF for the local .NET Users group.  We're currently using the old ASP.NET community starter kit.  Our first need is to enable people to register for the meetings.  The key requirement there is identifying users through having them sign up.

    Thanks,
    Colin

That's great news Bob!  We're keen to look at a full version, but we need to drive some sponsorship money first in order to cover the costs.  Is 3.1 still on track for a September release?  I've started some work with 3.0 and eagerly await 3.1 to wrap up the final of the first iteration features to get the site up.
