...did someone forget to filter out special characters for a url name?

Now I have not tried to SAVE a bad url, however it's not like web where when you type a special it's converted to a dash.

    Hello Steve,

Thank you for using Sitefinity Lightning.

In Lightning like in  the Sitefinity Backstage you have two options to fill the item url name. When you type the item title (main short field for dynamic modules) the url name is filled automatically and all special characters are replaced or striped. Also you can edit the url name field directly, in this case these characters won’t be replaced. If any exist the field won’t pass the validation rules and you will not be able to publish the item to Sitefinity.  You can still save it as a local draft even if the item contains invalid information that violates the validation. This is a design decision and we want to give you the freedom to save to your local machine whatever you want and come back to it later to fix the invalid information and then publish the item.

We are aware that this behavior may be confusing in some cases and that’s why we are happy to gather as much feedback as possible.

Of course, if you somehow manage to pass through the validation and actually publish the item with url name containing invalid characters, this will be a serious bug and I will be happy to investigate it further.

I look forward to assist you further.

    Hello Steve,

This is actually absolutely the same behavior as in Sitefinity - just try it with these symbols in the CMS itself. Lightning despite being beta does a lot of clever things in the background, like taking the validation rules for all fields it visualizes from Sitefinity. If a field has a regex validation rule (like the URL) we take this rule from the CMS and apply it in Lightning as well.

    Kind regards,
    Georgi
