If I choose to login through my site it should be loading my defined frontend login page (as set in the sitefinity backend settings), not the backend login page

    Hi Steve,

We currently relate only to the backend login and that's why the client always redirect to it.
What is more, with our next release, only backend users would be allowed to use Sitefinity Desktop Application. Having in mind this, we have no reason to depend on front-end login page.

*sigh* okay, well I'll re-try SDA in a year then...I'm done trying to get it to work

    1) None of our users (even backend) use /Sitefinity/Login to log in...so if they saw that it's a big WTF
    2) Our usernames are based on email...so not steve but steve@medportal.ca.  The frontend widget adds that for them.
    3) Backend shows the dropdown for Default and MedportalAD, users don't have this on the frontend, it's always MedportalAD
    4) SDA always assumes "Default" it seems so we can't just login with its native login UI.

Right now it'll just be another thing that'll generate tickets for us

    Hi,

I really sorry to hear that SDA does not fit well to your scenario. We are constantly working to improve its functionality in order to meet all our clients needs. However some custom scenarios are still not covered.

SDA is designed for Sitefinity content editors and is giving them the alternative and the comfort of using Desktop environment for their work. So as a content editor the user must have backend permissions and log to the Sitefinity backend by going to www.yourdomain.com/Sitefinity in order to manage/edit the site content. There is no difference if the user type www.yourdomain.com/Sitefinity (please notice that its jus /Sitefinity not Sitefinity/Login) in her/his browser or try to login from SDA and if the site respond with some custom login form or whatever SDA just like the browser will follow it. In the moment when it get the access token/cookie SDA will start using the SDA services. However we are not aware of any frontend pages because SDA is in its nature a backend client. As far as SDA is concerned there is no difference if you login from a backend page frontend page or even page that has no real connection to your Sitefinity site as long as it gets the required access token/cookie.However if that page is not configured to be the page used for login into the backend we wont be aware of its existence and how can we?

...then let me tell SDA to use a specific provider in a multi-provider scenario and problem solved ;)

I have Default and AD active...it doesn't give me an option on native login and fails out, I ASSUME because it's just trying Default.

    Hello,

Yes, as for now SDA is using only the default membership provider and the only alternative is to use the Web Site login functionality.

By "...then let me tell SDA to use a specific provider in a multi-provider scenario" did you mean to let the SDA user to choose from the available providers or to let the site administrator somehow configure which provider is used for SDA?

The possibility of choosing from all available membership providers in SDA is a feature already in our future road map and is something we are already working on.

Configuring the site to redirect SDA user to different default membership provider is very good suggestion and we are definitely going to consider it in the future but it’s not in our road map for the moment. This is because the SDA module is just a normal Sitefinity module and like every other module it is relaying on Sitefinity for all matters concerning authentication and authorization. There is no real difference if you call the SDA service or for example blog services.

You could have an SDA config section in the SF backend and when the connection happens it could read back custom settings...including which provider to use on login.  Would that not have been easier than implementing the custom login page functionality?

    Hi,

Custom log in page for SDA is definitely not an option and we are considering that at the moment. However having a backend security configuration for SDA is a good idea that we will probably work on in the near future.

Thank you for the helpful feedback and for the ideas.
