Marketplace FAQ

Marketplace listing is any product by a third-party vendor that is listed for either free or paid download on the website.

Publisher can be any organization or individual who has at least one published listing on the Sitefinity Marketplace.

Customer is any organization or individual who uses the marketplace to download for free or purchase Sitefinity add-ons listed on the website.

First, complete our Become a Publisher form to provide us with your details. As a second step you should develop and submit at least one Sitefinity add-on to the Marketplace. If your add-on is approved, you will be listed as a Publisher on the Marketplace.

You can use any of your Sitefinity licenses to develop add-ons for the Marketplace. In addition, you can also work with the Community Edition or the Trial versions to develop your first add-on.

The Sitefinity SDK offers many how-to tutorials, code samples, productivity tools, sample websites, and more. We strongly recommend that you download the software development kit before starting work on any Sitefinity extension. Also, our Resources section serves as a central hub for various Sitefinity resources.

You can only use the words Sitefinity and Telerik at the end of the listing’s name, so that it ends with “for Sitefinity” or “for Telerik Sitefinity CMS.” For example, if the generic product name is “Weather Widget” it is possible to add “for Sitefinity” at the end of its name, so that it is named “Weather Widget for Sitefinity.” It is not possible to use the words ‘Sitefinity’ and ‘Telerik’ in any other cases.

You can submit to the Marketplace any kind of Sitefinity extension that adds value to the overall product. Extensions can be widgets, modules, templates, mobile phone app or any other application that extends the built-in features and functionality of Sitefinity CMS.

It is not required that publishers offer the source code for their Sitefinity add-ons. However, we recommend that you make your source available to Marketplace customers as download or purchase option. Customers need access to the source code, so that they can make minor tweaks and most importantly be able to provide support for the add-on to their respective end clients.

Yes, all publishers who have at least one published marketplace listing will receive not-for-resale (NFR) licenses for the Sitefinity Small Business Edition, Sitefinity Standard Edition, and Sitefinity Professional Edition. Those NFR licenses can only be used for development of Sitefinity add-ons for the Marketplace.

Marketplace products are supported by their respective publisher. The publisher may or may not offer support for a given product. Please, contact the publisher to find out what support options they offer.

Telerik validates some listings on the Marketplace. All validated listings are marked with a “Sitefinity Validated” logo and have the Sitefinity Validated tag.

Only Marketplace listings that are distributed as a free download could have the Sitefinity Validated logo on them. All Sitefinity validated marketplace listings are hosted by Telerik. The Sitefinity Team has tested those extensions against a blank Sitefinity project in order to ensure that they do not break the system. Extensions are tested on the respective Sitefinity versions that they support. All downloadable files have also been vetted for malicious software. It is the publisher’s responsibility to ensure that their Sitefinity extensions do not have bugs and work as stated on their description.

Note that even though a Sitefinity extension has been tested on a blank Sitefinity project, Telerik cannot be held responsible, if an extension breaks a Sitefinity website due to customizations that have been made to it.
