  When I try installing Sitefinity3.0 on my windows 2003 server (IIS6), I receive the following error. Any help?

  Hello Stephen,
  
  This error may occur for this two reasons:
  1.    If the logged user has no administrative permissions.
  2.    If IIS is not properly configured to use ASP.NET.
  
  You can also have a look at “Configuring IIS” chapter in User Manual.
  Also, could you please check up if it is possible to create virtual directories manually?

  Hi Pepi,
  
  I am logged in as administrator, and I can create these virtual directories manually.  Several other ASP.NET 2.0 web applications are running on the computer in questions without a problem.
  
  I was able to set up the initial Sitefinity 3.0 virtual directory structure manually - but I still get this error when I try creating a project.

  Hello Stephen,
  
  I assume that your distribution might have been corrupted. You can download the official release version from Sitefinity site http://sitefinity.com/my-client.net/my-downloads.aspx and try again. Firstly you should uninstall the old version. 
  In case installing new version doesn’t help, could you please send us more detailed information about your IIS configuration; some screenshots for example will be great.

  I have created a ticket in the system.
  
  How does Sitefinity install determine which website to install the virtual directories under?  I have many sites on this machine and need to know what site it is attempting to install to.

  I have fixed this and will update my support ticket:
  
  Apparently, the Sitefinity install process looks for w3svc/1 as the website to use.  I had removed this website (as i always do with new servers) from the iis management console.  This path still does exist in the metabase, but it is inaccessible (as I want it to be). 
  
  As soon as I copied another website configuration to w3svc/1 using adsutil (in order to once again display this site in IIS console), the installer worked properly and I'm up and running.
  
  Fix for Telerik: I think Sitefinity should prompt the user for which website to to install the virtual directories to, rather than assuming the Default Web Site w3svc/1.  This was a headache, as this preference is not listed in the install documentation.

  I ran into the same problem and could not get any useful information from the SF team. Here is how I solved the problem:
  
  I installed SF3.6, I get the 2 HRESULT exceptions.
  
  I created a new website, with an empty hostheader value, thus making it the default website.
  
  Then I created 2 virtual directories myself in the IIS console, under this website, pointing them to the appropriate directories:
  
  for the "telerik" virtual directory, this is
  C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\telerik\web
  
  for the "Sitefinity3.6" virtual directory, this is
  C:\Program Files (x86)\telerik\Sitefinity\ProjectManager
  
  thats it. The shortcuts installed by the SF installer work if I do it this way. Simple once you know it.

  Make sure to set the security settings for the SiteFinity virtual directory appropriately:
  - disable anonymous access
  - enable Windows authentication

  Additional info:
  you must grant full access for the account the asp.net process runs under, to the ProjectManager directory under the SiteFinity folder. Usually, this process runs under the network service account.

  Just a note here why full access is needed - it is because the project manager creates directories, extract files from a zip archive and writes files to the disk. That is why Read only access is not enough.

  Same issue here... tried the steps Michael provided... no luck.
  
  Whats funny about sitefinity is.... its a great product, once installed, its awesome...   But the installer is rather lacking... We setup about 15 different 'sandboxes' here at my work, and every single install, or update... has been riddled with random errors, always resulting in googles searches for fixes.
  
  Sitefinity would be the number 1 CMS on the net.... if people could get it installed without hours of googling for the error messages.

  I'd like to reiterate what John said. Every @#$% install sends me back to Google... simply infuriating!
