I popped open Reflector to look at the TelerikMembershipProvider's implementation of CreateUser.  The providerUserKey didn't seem to be used and I wanted to flag that as a concern or maybe a missed opportunity.  I'm working on implementing Windows Live ID authentication. The provider user key under the built-in SqlMembershipProvider allows me to set the GUID value as opposed to being forced to accept a randomly generated value. If I can get the same functionality then I can probably make Windows Live ID authentication work without having to re-invent a lot of things.

Any thoughts on how to get that as a settable value when creating a user as opposed to having to do all kinds of hacky work?

    Hello Colin,

    Sorry for the late answer.
You are right, seems this is a bug in the TelerikMembershipProvider - the providerUserKey is not handled by the CreateUser method.
As we plan to release a service pack soon after the Q1 of the RadControls, we will include the fix for this issue as well.

We apologize for the inconvenience. You telerik points were updated for reporting this problem.

    Sincerely yours,
    the Telerik team
