i've embedded a youtube video on a site
however, the site menu ( radmenu) does not hover over the video, it is hidden behind the youtube video

Its easy to test, just embed any youtube video on a site with dropdown menus, and you will recreate issue

is there are known work around for this?

This problem is a browser layering issue.  Flash objects tend to place themselves on top of all elements in the page.  I found the following links that may help you find a solution.  It looks like you can use the z-index css property to solve this problem:

    Hello Adam,

Have you managed to fix this problem? Is it an option, to wrap your menu control in a div tag, with class having a z-index declaration (with the appropriate value of course)?

    Kind regards,

Just wrapping it in a div will not get the job done.  According to that first link that I posted you have 3 requirements for getting the video player to layer properly on the page:

    -----------------------------------

    1) Use CSS to set the absolute position of the player container and the overlaid elements.

    2) Use CSS to set the z-index of the player container to a lower value than the overlaid elements.

    3) Use wmode=opaque.

    All three are required.
