I am trying to deny a user to see the List Module. They are in a role called News Administrator for example. They have permission to the CMS system. I would like it if when they logged into Sitefinity, they only saw the news module and not generic content, blogs, lists, etc.  I did this prior to 3.5 but for some reason, I can not accomplish this now. For example, I have set their permission to deny for everything in the lists module  (Set Permissions for this Role - All to Deny) and it is still listed among the modules when logged in. This person is not a member of any other role as well.
    What am I missing?

    Thank you.

    Hi Laura,

    Thanks for contacting us.

We are in process of upgrading the security features of our CMS and as a result, some of the settings do not work properly. We are planning to fix these issues in SP2, which is due in another 2-4 weeks. I was able to restrict view access by unchecking all of the fields in the lists module, which is shown in the attached screen shot. I will expedite this issue to the Sitefinity team.

If you permissions problems persist, please let us know.

    Best wishes,
    Joe

Thank you. I had set up similar permissions in the previous version and it still held through the upgrade, however I am not able to replicate that in the new version - which is why I thought I was missing a setting.

It is very frustrating becasue I wanted to show a client that specfic feature in a site we are building for them - that they could have a person to log in and only see and update news items in the News Module.

I think Sitefinity is really great but the time spent on trying to figure out why things don't work after an upgrade is time-comsuming. I think having the open-source SNP project would be a huge help!  It is often hard to find what you are looking for in the Forums and having a place where someone can view some best practices online would be great. Especiallu the SNP project because I am finding that a lot of comapnies are looking to bring their sites up to "web 2.0" standards with blogs, forums, rss feeds, etc.

    Thank you.

    Hello Laura,

I was able to achieve the desired functionality. Please try following my steps:
    1. Created a new role
    2. Created a new user, who will not be able to see Lists module
    3. Administration -> Permissions, selected my role and checked all Allow checkboxes
    4. Lists -> Permissions, selected my role, and checked Deny View
    5. On every other [Module]->Permissions screen, I checked Allow View

This caused my role users to see everything but the List module.

    Best wishes,
    Georgi
