We will be implementing a standbye database, but I am curious to learn if the product has any maintenance mode like features that ensures a friendly we're down for maintenance page appears.

Whats the best sitefinity practice here?

    thanks!

    Hello Steve,

Out of the box there is not such a mode in 3.x editions. You can use app_offline or custom handler that will be activated during the maintenance which will redirect only front end users.
