    Hello,

While is sample sites coming with Sitefinity navigation controls wen are used in any page are working very well in new projects the use of them is a little confusing. Some documentation would help a lot.

    Best regards

    Hi Vagelis Kretsimos,

Sorry , we are not quite sure if we understood correctly. Can you please clarify?
If you mean the new navigation controls in the toolbox, we will provide documentation for them in the next release.

I have downloaded the community edition and have been trying to figure out the menu (top) works.  I have not found any documentation regarding how to get the top menu/navigation to work.  I can place a tabstrip but nothing occurs.

How do you hook up the navigation controls in alignment with the page structure?

I beleive this is what the problem is.

    Hi David Yardy,

In order to provide site navigation with RadMenu or RadTabstrip, the default scenario is to setup a SiteMapDataSource Control, drop a RadMenu/RadTabstrip on the page, and set its DataSourceID property to the ID of the SiteMapDataSource. The SiteMapDataSource control automatically gets the sitemap structure for your project. This, however, has been made easier with the navigation user controls, coming with Sitefinity after SP1. They wrap up the functionality of SiteMapDataSource and Telerik navigation controls and provide codeless navigation setup.
If you are looking at the navigation in our sample TIU site, yes, it uses these user controls. If you want to use them for your own project, just drop one on a page or template and it is ready out-of-the-box. However, make sure that you use Site Tabstrip, instead of RadTabstrip, or the analogous user control. The names of these controls in the toolbox are: Site Tabstrip, Site Panelbar, Site Menu, Site Treeview.
All user controls are available in the Navigation section in the Toolbox by default. You can also edit their code. They are located in the /Sitefinity/UserControls folder of your project. In the next release we will provide documentation for using them.
I hope this answers your question.

    Hi Slavo,

That was I was asking in my earlier post. To include these controls in empty project so in each new project they will be available.

    Best regards

    Hello Vagelis Kretsimos,

The controls are already included in Empty Project. By default they are available in every new project, in the toolbox, under the Navigation section.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Slavo,

Thanks for your reply. Actually I was looking on an old project created before latest version of Sitefinity. Perhaps there should be an option to upgrade old projects so that they'll much exactly the new ones in modules.

    Best regards

    Hello Vagelis Kretsimos,

Actually, the way old projects are upgraded is to copy the bin and Sitefinity folders from Empty Project to your project folder. Since these user controls are located in /Sitefinity/UserControls, they are copied, too. Same for the entries in web.config that include the controls in the toolbox. You shouldn't have any differences with newly created projects regarding these controls.

    Sincerely yours,
    Slavo

    Hello Josef Rogovsky,

You can find comments for the user controls members inside the following code behind files:
    ~/Sitefinity/UserControls/SiteMenu.ascx.cs
    ~/Sitefinity/UserControls/SitePanelbar.ascx.cs
    ~/Sitefinity/UserControls/SiteTabstrip.ascx.cs
    ~/Sitefinity/UserControls/SiteTreeview.ascx.cs

We will also provide documentation in the dev manual for the next release. Thanks for pointing out this issue.
