I haven't actually tried this yet (so busy at work!!!) so if it is already implemented please let me know so I can use it already!

It would be great if we could use the configSource attribute for the metafields node in web.config so that metafields and toolbox controls can be modified in a separate file. I have separate web configurations for development and production, so it's difficult keeping them in sync when I have to add a control or field.

putting them in a separate file will let me just drop that file in the production server and be done with it.

    Hello SelArom,

    Thank you for your suggestion.

Sitefinity 4.0 will eliminate the need to have web.config entries. These configurations will be kept in separate xml files but will be manageable through the user interface.

We haven't tried this yet, but .NET4.0 supports (the betas) web.config transformations. You might want to try this approach, so the web.config is automatically transformed (sections properties and attributes manipulations) when you build the web site with debug (dev server) and release (production).

    I hope this helps.

    Sincerely yours,
    the Telerik team
